Ben Vorlich (Loch Earn)

Finally a weather gap for a few days in Glencoe, so decided on the way over to make an attempt on Ben Vorlich beside Loch Earn on our way over. We were a bit later in getting away and didn't arrive until just after 10am.

Really warm today and Ailidh not been a hundred percent recently, so we really took our time on the way up. The path starts just over a bridge on the road and through some gates and soon past some houses before starting to gently climb up beside the Ardvorlich Burn. Heading through a few gates we reached a fork in the road where we kept right. Soon we crossed over a bridge and onto a rougher path.

Just before the next rise we found a couple of rocks that looked like a seat, so stopped for a break. The path continued upwards with a few steeper sections before the final ascent to the summit up some very loose steep scree. At the top the views were pretty spectacular, especially over to Stuc a'Chroin. We had another larger break before heading west then south west down at times quite steep paths, however only a small section was loose scree, so definitely easier coming down this way.

We had taken a lot longer than expected to reach this point and were concerned about making the campsite check in time, so we decided to leave Stuc a'Chroin for another time. The return path from the bealach contoured around the hill over some very wet and boggy terrain which didn't let up much until we reached the north west corner. Once around the corner the path starts heading down across a few burns before eventually rejoining the ascent path around the 560m contour.

Once back at the car I found somebody had side swiped my car which had been fully off the single track road; at least they left contact details. The roads up to Glencoe were really busy so it took us nearly two hours to reach the campsite on the shore of Loch Leven. By the time we pitched up, showered and had supper it was past 9pm, it didn't take long for us to doze off despite some of the partying on the site.
