With a gap between exams Ailidh wanted out for a hike and decided to attempt to complete the Loch Lochy munros after the snow defeated us a few weeks ago. So after an early start, a second breakfast at McDonalds in Nairn, we arrived and started walking around 9:30am.
Following along the Great Glen way we soon reached the turn off and struck steeply uphill through the trees. Once past the trees the track incline eases and today was much drier and devoid of snow unlike our last outing here.
Once we reached the bealach we took a short break to refuel before aiming for our first Munro, today we decided on attempting the northern one first. The path is steep but zig zags most of the way up making it much easier than it looks. The path becomes less distinct at the top where you turn north west for a short ascent to the summit of Sron a'Choire Ghairbh.
We retracted our steps back to the bealach to have lunch before tackling the second Munro, our nemesis from last time. The path has a short steep section before contouring around the hill aiming towards the bealach between the munro and Meall Dubh. We made much better progress today as the path was pretty dry. From here the route was clearly visible heading up very steeply south west to the ridge, unlike last time as it was under a layer of snow.
Once on the ridge the slope eases off a bit and was only around half a kilometer to the top of Meal na Teagna, where the views today towards Ben Nevis were quite spectacular.
We then retracted our steps to the main bealach, then back down the trail to the car for a brew up. On our way home we popped in past KFC for supper. Ailidh was sound asleep within about five minutes on the drive home.
