Back up to the Fannichs area, conditions looked good to attempt the last munro top of Sgurr Mor that we missed out two years ago due to a medical emergency. With a cold -3 celsius start at 9am, I headed down the track towards the loch, ground frozen underfoot. Just before the gate, turned off to the left through the small wooded area, then over the bridge.

Taking the atv track to the left a short distance after the bridge, ground mostly frozen so the mud fest from last time avoided. After around half a mile you come to a bridge in quite a poor state, ok on foot, but wouldn't want to take a vehicle over it! Keeping to the track, I bumped in to a couple of walkers that had stuck to the main path and had to ford the Allt Breabaig.

Soon after striking off the track close to a very small cairn, the start of the steep ascent towards the first Munro began. At times there were some trails that could be followed, but in the main the aim was to keep to the right of the rocky outcrops to the north of the Munro.

Once the steepest part was over, the going was much easier, and wasn't long to summit the Munro, Meall a' Chrasgaidh, which had a light dusting of snow today. I only stopped for a brief chat with the two walkers I had met earlier that had stormed up to the top just in front of me.

From here I headed south to the bealach, keeping well away from a cornice at the top of Am Burach. As I made my way up towards my target top of the day, the lying snow because quite icy in places, if heading towards the next Munro on the ridge, crampons would have been essential.

The Munro top, Carn na Criche was soon reached where I settled down to have lunch, however it was quite windy at the top, so didn't stay for very long.

Retracing my steps to the bealach, I contoured around Meall a' Chrasgaidh, making an almost straight line for the top of the original ascent, this way avoiding the fords on the main path alongside the Allt Breabaig, which I suspected were in spate today. On the descent the ground had started to thaw in places making in slippy at times, and once on the atv track, the mud fest I remembered had returned somewhat.

Arriving back at the car the temperature was a balmy 12 celsius. After a short rest and brew up, it was time for the very long drive home. Overall a great day out, but missing the company of my usual walker partner, Ailidh.
