Staying overnight at Stirling Youth Hostel we traveled up to the start point at Inverlochlarig and were walking just after 9am. A short distance west along the road we past through the farm gates and had to wait as the farmer drove some sheep along the road. Once over the bridge, there is a sign directing walkers over a style and along the river past a small hydro scheme building, the path soon re-joining the track heading up the glen.
After a short walk there is a muddy track to the west which we nearly missed as the track turns in the other direction. This was the start of a pretty muddy ill-defined track heading up towards the first Munro, first passing a large cairn then eventually through a gate in a fence. Once past the gate, the track becomes better defined and steeper, but flattens out closer to the summit of Beinn Tulaichean.
We stopped for a refuel at the summit, but unfortunately no views today, instead it was misty with some occasional light showers. Feeling recharged we headed along the ridge and down just over 100m to the bealach, spotting our return path for later marked by a small cairn.
From the bealach there was a few rises before the path turned north east up some rockier sections before we reached the second Munro of the day Cruach Ardrain. With no views, we didn't hang around and retraced our steps to the marker cairn to the north of the bealach.
The descent itself into Inverlochlarig Glen took longer than expected as the track was very wet, muddy and slippery, along with a couple of steep sections and an easy crossing around the confluence of two streams, today both in spate.
It was a welcome relief to eventually reach the land rover track leading back to the farm. Close to the car we encountered a stag beside the road with a few does not far away.
Unfortunately on our way back to the Youth Hostel we had a puncture just a few miles from Stirling, luckily the AA arrived and had us back on the road in under an hour!
