Up at 5am and out the door well before 6am for the long drive towards Ullapool, eventually parking up at the far end of Loch Glascarnoch in the same car park we used for Sgurr Mor a couple of years ago.

Crossing the road we took the boggy path and soon came to the main obstacle for the day, the crossing over the Abhainn a'Ghrabainn. Today the water level was no real issue, spending more time changing in and out of crocs than the actual wading!

The path contours around the east side of some small hillocks deposited by an ancient glacier, before we started the ascent and at times boggy climb to the bealach, Drochaid a' Ghlas Tuill. The path disappears at this point, but there are two marker cairns that direct you to an atv path that runs over the ridge.

Heading now north along the ridge another small ascent before it levels out for a couple of kilometres. Around half way along the plateau, the wind got up, it started to rain and visibility dropped a lot. Towards the Munro the atv track we followed turns eastwards in the wrong direction, so we kept keep north and joined another track that ascends north then north east. It would be easy to end up heading in the wrong direction in poorer conditions.

The terrain becomes rockier and levels out for a short distance before a final push up to the summit of Am Faochagach. Conditions were very poor at the top, but we did stop for lunch, unfortunately with no views!

Being an up and down Munro, we followed the same route back, but was tricky in the poor visibility until we re-joined the atv track. Once at the river crossing we found a small marker cairn on the north side indicating a good point to rock hop across instead of using crocs, pity we hadn't noticed earlier.

We originally had hoped to try for Ben Wyvis today as well, but as conditions at height were bad and we had taken a little longer than planned, we decided against. After a welcome brew up, we started the long trek home.
